Assessment of the Future Costs and Performance of Solar Photovoltaic Technologies in New Zealand This project involved a study into the future costs and performance of Photovoltaics in New Zealand, including:

  • An assessment of the future costs and performance of solar PV in New Zealand.
  • An assessment of how the costs and performance of solar PV technology are likely to change over time, and
  • How solar PV technology might be deployed in New Zealand.

Study into Renewable Energy Supply on Norfolk Island, Government of Norfolk Island This project aims to investigate the potential for renewable energy integration into the Norfolk Island electricity supply. The project will investigate a number of potential renewable energy technologies including several wind technologies, solar thermal, photovoltaic and energy storage.

Technical Advisory to the Renewable Remote Power Generation Program (RRPGP), DEWHA Provision of technical assistance in the management of the RRPGP, including reviewing procedure and technical analysis of the program outcomes.

Technical Management of Cape Barren Island Project, FAHCSIA IT Power (Australia) has been contracted as technical supervisor and advisor to FaHCSIA for the upgrade of the Cape Barren Island Power System. The project involves the design and construction of a new diesel / wind hybrid system for the island and consists of three phases;

  • Phase one involves the refurbishment of the existing diesel power supply
  • Phase two consists of the design and construction of a wind and solar contribution to the power supply
  • Phase three consists of undertaking energy efficiency and community education measures (running parallel with Phases 1 and 2).

IT Power (Australia) is the contractual lead for the technical supervision and will be assisted by DCFX Solar Systems. The design and construction of the new system is being undertaken by a separate contractor with input from IT Power (Australia) IT Power (Australia) is closely involved with the client to develop the energy efficiency training.

Assistance with REEEP Energy Assessment in the Pacific, DEWHA IT Power (Australia) undertook a desk top study of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in the Pacific to identify gaps where REEEP funding could be best utilised. Mr Troman, Managing Director of IT Power (Australia), also travelled to Fiji to attend the Council of Regional Organisations of the Pacific (CROP) Energy Working Group (EWG) meeting, and to conduct interviews with regional stakeholders, canvassing the input into the project. The output of this work is an overview perspective (report) on the various Pacific actions underway and in planning, and strategic advice as to future approaches/actions for REEEP to support. This project is directly related to the AusAID funding being allocated by REEEP.

Brewarrina Solar Farm Feasibility Study, Brewarrina Business Cooperative The project was managed by IT Power (Australia) and delivered in association with Global Sustainable Energy Solutions (GSES), and Demand Manager (DM). The project involved conducting a feasibility study into a possible solar energy farm in Brewarrina NSW. The study addressed the following considerations:

  • Technology Considerations
    • Undertook general review of the four principal technologies
    • Undertook direct discussions with suppliers to build profile of project
  • Funding Considerations
    • Undertook preliminary analysis of possible funding avenues
  • Network Considerations
    • Discuss with Country Energy
  • Other Considerations
    • Assessed local network against land maps to identify one or more candidate sites.
    • Assessed typical local land costs.
    • Identified possible land ownership issues.

Additionally IT Power (Australia) developed a „first pass‟ feasibility model (Microsoft Excel) of alternative technologies finances based on above parameters.

Quality Renewable Energy Training Program in India, DEWHA (AP6) Develop a strategy for the government of India and the Indian renewable energy industries for training at all levels of the renewable energy industry.

2006

Review of the Renewable RRPGP in Queensland, AGO The project was managed by IT Power (Australia) and delivered in association with DCFX Solar Systems. The project involved conducting a review of the RRPGP in Queensland against the following criteria:

  • Effectiveness
  • Appropriateness
  • Efficiency

The project also delivered a summary of the major activities undertaken with the RRPGP funds in Queensland, and on the basis of the findings offered recommendations to inform future sustainable energy policies/programmes focusing on renewable energy development and related issues. IT Power (Australia) managed the project and were responsible for delivery of all reports. Specifically IT Power (Australia) undertook the broad analysis of the programme in terms of achievement of its objectives, overall cost and cost developments and customer satisfaction. This included undertaking the major part of the consultations with applicants and dealings with the Queensland EPA.

Promotion of Renewable Energy for Emergency Disaster Relief, Reconstruction and Development, AGO
Study of opportunities for renewable energy technology to play a role in emergency and development work. A specific aspect of the project was the preparation of a booklet for distribution to aid organisations, which demonstrated through case studies how renewable energy and energy efficiency may be used in relief and reconstruction. The project also reported on Australian industry capability to respond quickly.
